Man has nose broken in robbery

A man had his nose broken by two masked men who then made off with a substantial amount of money in an incident in Ballycastle on Sunday night.

Police cordoned off an area at The Diamond following the incident which took place around 10 p.m.

Inspector Bryan Hume said the victim, Mr. Mukesh Karunakaran, who is manager of a Bistro in the town, answered a knock at his door.

He was confronted by two masked men who entered the house and punched him two or three times on the nose, breaking it before tying him up with wire.

They also threatened to stab him with a knife they had in their possession.

On Monday morning, the area was taped off and two officers were guarding the scene where clothing, thought to belong to those responsible, were taken away for forensic examination.

Inspector Hume said they were going down a definite line of enquiry and said the clothing would perhaps yield vital DNA evidence.
