Man hospitalised after house fire

A man received medical treatment after a blaze broke out at a home in the Woodburn area.

It is understood the incident occurred at approximately 9:10pm on Monday, December 12.

Commenting on the incident, a spokesperson for Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service (NIFRS) said: “NIFRS responded to a fire at an end-terraced house at Rossdowney Gardens in the Woodburn area of Londonderry.

“Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used a hosereel jet to extinguish a small fire in the shower unit.

“A 68-year-old man received oxygen therapy from FRS for mild smoke inhalation at the scene. He was taken to hospital by a neighbour accompanied by one FRS personnel.

“Smoke alarm was activated by the fire. Fire crews from Crescent Link and Northland stations attended the incident.”
