Man in court after Gilford accident

Brendan McGrattan, Woodville Street, Lurgan, admitted a serious of motoring offences which happened in Ann Street, Gilford, on January 17 this year.

He was sentenced to five months in prison, suspended for two years, and disqualified for three years for driving while unfit.

Concurrent two year driving bans were imposed for not having a licence, failing to report an accident, failing to remain at the scene, no insurance, driving without due care and attention and failing to stop.

The court heard damage was caused to car in Ann Street between 5.30pm and 9.30am the following morning.

There were scrapes to the front offside of the vehicle and it was discovered the damage had been caused by a car park a short distance away.

Police called at the address and spoke to another person who said he had not been out in the vehicle.

The defendant was also there and both of them were hung over.

A witness told police both of them had been in the car with McGrattan driving and the other person in the passenger seat.

A solicitor for McGrattan said both men were hung over and drunk and neither knew what had happened.
