Girts Zartmanis, whose address was given as Church Place, Lurgan, admitted unlawful possession of a class A drug, methylamphetamine, and possession of a class B drug, cannabis, on January 12 this year.

The court heard that police were in the defendant’s home in relation to another matter and in the bedroom found two plastic bags.

One contained white powder and the other contained cannabis.

The defendant said: “Yes, they’re my drugs and I use them.”

There were one and a half grams of the class A drug and just over five grams of the class B drug.

A barrister representing the defendant said he maintained he did not have an issue with drugs.

There were no other offences in the pipeline.

Imposing the community service District Judge, Mr Mervyn Bates, said the defendant had been fined for a previous similar offence.
