Man in court on rape charge

Aaron Francis Hyland, whose address was given as Cranbrook Court, Belfast, is also charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and possession of a claw hammer.

He is further accused of making a threat to kill a police officer, assault on police and possession of cannabis.

Londonderry Magistrates’ Court heard the alleged attack happened at a house in Glenabbey Drive in the city on October 3.

There was no application for bail and Hyland was remanded in custody to appear in court again via videolink on October 23.

The alleged injured party’s family were in court for the brief hearing.
