Nearby office workers could only watch as the drama unfolded on Thursday last.

One eyewitness told the ‘MAIL’ the man had been spotted on the bridge in what appeared to be a distressed and highly emotional state, at one stage climbing over the safety railing to stand on the bridge’s edge.

Fortunately he climbed back to the inside of the railing and at that stage a passer-by stopped with him and talked to him.

The witness said: “A couple of people walked past him but did not approach.

“A lady in a yellow coat came up and talked to him and persuaded him to come off the bridge.

“A word from a stranger prevented something tragic from happening.

“We could see it happening but could do nothing. This lady came and saw the situation and acted as a human
being.

“A kind act from a stranger saved someone’s life.”
