Man in his 50s dies after A1 crash

A man in his 50s has died following a three-vehicle collision on the A1 dual carriageway yesterday.

Two other men, aged in their 30s, were also injured in the crash.

One is reported to be in a stable condition in Belfast’s Royal Victoria Hospital while the other was taken to Newry’s Daisy hill Hospital and later discharged.

Though since re-opened, both carriageways of the A1 were closed between Newry and Loughbrickland after the collision.

Diversions were in place and heavy goods vehicles heading south were directed via the Rathfriland Road, rather than smaller country roads, for their own safety.
