Man jailed for brutal street attack

A MAN who viciously attacked a couple during an altercation in a Whiteabbey housing estate in 2008 has been jailed for two years.

Anthony Joseph McAuley (32), from Forfar Street in Belfast, appeared at Belfast Crown Court on Wednesday (April 28).

He was sentenced to two years in prison and two years on probation for GBH with intent for brutally assaulting Dennis McFeeley during an argument about a parking space.

Mr McFeeley and his wife, Dolores, were both badly beaten during the incident, which happened at Glenville Park on February 10, 2008.

Months after the attack, Mr McFeeley suffered a stroke which required him to have 24-hour nursing care. The court heard there was no evidence to link this to the assault he suffered at the hands of McAuley. However, his family believe otherwise.

McAuley had previously pleaded guilty to a string of charges, including grievous bodily harm, assault, criminal damage and possessing an offensive weapon.

His co-accused, Susan McGuinness (45), from Glenville Park, walked free from court after being given a conditional discharge for assaulting Mrs McFeeley.
