Man jailed for "unacceptable" behaviour

A COLERAINE man has been given a custodial sentence after he was found guilty of common assault, disorderly behaviour, criminal damage and obstructing police.

North Antrim Magistrates' Court heard that Dean McAfee (40), of Ramsey Park, was arrested following an incident at Causeway Hospital on October 3 last year.

Police were called to the hospital after the defendant became abusive whilst staff tried to treat him.

Officers approached McAfee and he shouted at them: "Go and f**k yourself."

McAfee continued to be abusive and was arrested.

On January 19 this year McAfee was arrested again following an incident at his sister's house.

Court heard that the defendant arrived at his sister's house in an intoxicated and began to bang on her windows, smashing two of them, before shouting that he was going to get a knife and stab her.

McAfee was arrested at his home shortly afterwards and told police that he couldn't remember doing it.

A solicitor said McAfee regretted his actions and had apologised for them and that he is desperate to deal with his alcohol problems.

District Judge, Jim McFarland, described McAfee's behaviour as 'unacceptable'. He sentenced him to two months in prision for the charges of disorderly behaviour and criminal damage and one month for assault. The sentences are to run concurrently.

McAfee was also fined 200 for obstructing police.
