Man killed in single car collision outside Portadown is named locally

He died following a road traffic collision on the Red Lion Road in Kilmore.

He is the 27th person to die on Northern Ireland’s roads this year.

This time last year 36 people had been killed on our roads.

DUP Councillor for Portadown, Jonathan Buckley, said the man who died was from the Dungannon area.

He said: “Stephen Greenaway is actually a distant relative of my own, and his family are distraught at what has happened,” he said.

“He and his family are well connected to the community outside Dungannon and his death will send shockwaves around the community.

“I know the community is quite close and will rally around the family in this difficult time.”

The collision happened shortly after 1am and involved a Red MG ZR car.

Inspector Peter Moneypenny said: “Enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances of the collision and I would appeal to anyone who was driving on the Red Lion Road at the time and may have witnessed the collision, or anyone who has information that could assist in our investigation, to contact police on 101.”

DUP MLA for Newry and Armagh William Irwin MLA told of his concern and sadness following the fatality which he said happened was close to his home.

“The Co Armagh area has seen a high number of fatal road accidents in recent months and here we have yet another very tragic incident which has claimed another life,” he said.

“Another family has been plunged into grief and I want to express my deepest sympathy to the family circle of the late Mr Greenaway at this very difficult time.”
