Man killed on railway line near Lisburn

A MAN was killed on the railway line in Lisburn after being struck by a Belfast-bound Enterprise train at the weekend.

The line between Portadown and Lisburn was closed after the incident, which happened at the railway bridge at Knockmore at around 5.30pm on Saturday.

A Translink spokesperson said: "We can confirm that the railway line between Portadown and Lisburn was closed on Saturday evening January 29th following a fatality on the line near Lisburn at approximately 5.30pm.

"PSNI and Emergency Services attended the scene. Translink is working closely with the PSNI on their enquiries. We wish to extend our sympathies to the family and friends of the deceased."

A police spokesperson said they were not treating the death as suspicious. The man is not thought to have been from the area, however, it is believed he had family living locally.
