Man made ‘vitriolic’ comments

Caelon Oliver Robert Curry (19), Soye Gardens, had admitted at a previous court a charge of disorderly behaviour on December 6 last year.The case had been adjourned for a pre-sentence report.

The court heard Curry, along with two other males, were seen in Church Place tying an object to the security fence at the police station. As they walked away Curry began to sign and shout. He said: “Ronan Kerr is blown up everywhere” and “black b—ds”.

Police were going to deal with the matter by a fixed penalty but Curry told them: “Nah, take me to f—king court. I’m paying no fine.”

District Judge, Mr Mervyn Bates, said these were ‘vitriolic comments’ and completely unacceptable. Mr Gabriel Ingram, representing the defendant, said Curry accepted it was absolutely disgraceful behaviour and a considerable degree of intoxication was involved. He added that his client would consent to a probation order.
