Sentencing in a case involving a 29-year-old man was halted last Thursday at Banbridge Magistrates Court because of the ‘disposition’ of the defendant.

Samuel George Thompson, Railway Street, Banbridge, at an earlier court, had pleaded guilty to unlawful possession of cannabis resin on September 16 last year.

The case had been adjourned so that a pre-sentence report could be obtained. He was in breach of a suspended sentenced for disorderly behaviour.

Last week’s court heard that a search under the drugs legislation was carried out at an address occupied by Thompson and cannabis resin was found.

At this point District Judge, Mr Paul Copeland, halted proceedings because of the ‘disposition’ on Thompson who was in the dock.

Adjourning the matter for a week he told the defendant he expected him to be ‘in a better frame of mind’ to proceed on the next occasion.
