Man on attempted child destruction charge

A Portstewart man is facing a rare charge of attempted child destruction.

Gary Woods (24) of Mullaghacall Crescent also faces charges of grievous bodily harm with intent and false imprisonment on January 31 His case was mentioned in North Antrim Magistrates’ court on Friday for the purposes of a bail application. However, due to the absence of a suitable bail address, the case was adjourned to a video link sitting later this month. Court heard that police have indicated that should the defendant be released on bail, he would be required to wear an electronic tag. Solicitor Francis Rafferty told the court that a bail hostel in Belfast had no places for the defendant. Child destruction relates to killing or attempting to kill an unborn but viable foetus.
