Stamers appeared in the dock of Craigavon Crown Court, sitting in Belfast, on Friday.

Mr Justice Weir told Stamers that given his guilty plea there is “only one sentence which is permitted by law and that’s the sentence of life imprisonment”.

He told Stamers he would fix the minimum tariff he must serve before becoming eligible to have his case referred to the parole commissioners in May.
