Man pleads ‘not guilty’ of murder charge

MAGHERAFELT man has pleaded not guilty to the murder of a woman at a launderette in Portstewart last year.

Fred McClenaghan, 49, of Broad Street in Magherafelt, is alleged to have shot his former girlfriend, Marion Millican, as she ate lunch at her work on 11 March 2011.

He also denied having a firearm with intent to endanger life when he appeared at Laganside Court on Friday.

A defence lawyer said forensic tests still had to be carried out on the gun.

He added that other reports had to be completed before the case goes to trial.

The court has already heard the defendant claim the death of the mother of four was an accident.
