Aaron Mulholland (23) of Lurgantarry admitted assault occasioning actual bodily harm on January 25.

The defendant was with family and friends in the Vintage bar when he got involved with the injured party. He punched him in the face and a fight broke out.

When interviewed by Mulholland said he was only acting in self defence but accepted his behaviour was not orderly. The victim claimed he had been bitten just below his left ear, his nose was broken and he had cuts to his neck.

Defence said that CCTV showed that there was extreme provocation as the injured party came across and acted in an aggressive manner.

He added that Mulholland foolishly reacted. The injured party allegedly struck the defendant’s father with a bottle later on.
