Alan Luukas, whose address was given as Foyle Park, had denied a charge of arson endangering life.

However, after a jury was sworn to try the case the 36-year-old made an application to be rearraigned and admitted the lesser charge of arson.

A prosecutor told the court the plea was acceptable to the crown.

The charge relates to an incident at a flat in Baronet Street between August 7 and August 10, last year.

Sentencing was adjourned for a probation pre-sentence report.

Luukas was remanded in custody and will appear in court again on June 17.
