Man slept UNDER motorhome

POLICE found a man sleeping under a motorhome parked outside a house in Bendooragh in October after a domestic incident, North Antrim Magistrates Court in Coleraine was told on Wednesday of last week.

District Judge Richard Wilson wondered if it was not a bit cold to take refuge under the vehicle at that time of the year.

Michael Joseph McKee (26), unemployed, of Edenmore Avenue, was fined 250 for being disorderly on October 2, 2009.

A prosecutor said police responded to a report of a domestic incident at an address and located a male in the driveway and when awakened by police and told to move on he threatened violence against officers, shouted and swore and was aggressive before being arrested.

A defence barrister said McKee had an argument with his long term partner on the day in question but she was now in court with him.

On the day of the offence, the barrister said that after the argument McKee went to sleep under the motorhome and police pulled him out from under the vehicle.

The barrister alleged that because he had alcohol taken and had previously been asleep he felt the police were “rough in their treatment” and he acted in the manner in which he did.

Mr Wilson thought it unusual for someone to be sleeping under a motorhome in October and the defence barrister agreed it was cold and wet at the time.

Mr Wilson told McKee: “You thought you were roughly handled? Why did the police arrive in the first place?”

McKee admitted to the court he was banging on the door trying to get into the house.

Mr Wilson told him it was a “stupid” offence and if he persisted in those types of antics he could end up in jail.
