Man threatened to burn down mother's house

A LURGAN man who threatened to burn down his mother's house appeared last Thursday at Craigavon court.

He also admitted a charge of disorderly behaviour on October 23 last year.

The court heard that on October 23 police were called to a disturbance in Darling Avenue. Wilson was verbally abusive to them and after he was warned about his behaviour he continued to shout and swear.

On March 3 a friend of the injured party told police of a disturbance in her friend’s house.

When police arrived the injured party, the defendant’s mother, said she had received texts from her son threatening to burn down her house and assault her.

She said that when he came in he went straight to his bedroom. When she went to see him he told her to f-- off or he would do her.

She left the bedroom because she was afraid he would attack her and texted her friend to get her to contact the police.

The case had been adjourned from a previous court so that a pre-sentence report could be obtained.

Mr Paul Kennedy, representing the defendant, said what happened on March 3 mushroomed when Wilson got a puncture in his bicycle and his mother refused to pick him up.

Mr Kennedy added that the defendant has written a letter of apology to his parents and wants to make a new start.

He told the court that Wilson’s mother and stepfather were keen to take him back.

District Judge, Mr Alan White, gave Wilson 100 hours community service for the disorderly behaviour offence.

He deferred sentence on the other two charges for six months.
