Man tried to force way into station

A window cleaner tried to force his way into Coleraine PSNI Station in the middle of the night despite having drugs on him.

32-year-old Joel William Thomas McDonald of Maple Drive in Coleraine arrived at the police station at 4.40am on April 3 this year demanding to be let inside to see his girlfriend and then attempted to scale a security barrier.

Coleraine Magistrates Court was told he started shouting ‘F--k yourselves, let me in” and continued shouting until he was arrested and police found he had a bag of of Class A ‘meth’. He told police it was £10 worth of the drug for his own use.

Defence solicitor Denise Gillan said the other person had “gone off the rails and ended up in trouble” and McDonald had gone down to the station to see if he could assist in any way.

The lawyer said the drugs were only 0.02 of a gramme.

McDonald, who had pleaded guilty at an earlier court, was ordered to carry out 100 hours Community Service.
