Man used ‘perfect English’ to insult police

Kundera Marcin Roberts (22), of Glenloch Park, appeared at North Antrim Magistrates Court in Coleraine on Friday where he pleaded guilty to a disorderly behaviour charge at the Causeway Hospital.

A prosecutor said police arrived at an address on January 13 this year in relation to a male who was intoxicated and in “broken English” he told them he needed help but later at Coleraine Hospital he “clearly stated in perfect English” the words “F--k You”.

A defence lawyer said two days prior to the incident the defendant’s friend had taken his own life in this jurisdiction and his client had taken some solace in alcohol and was in a degree of a “distressed state”.

At some stage, the lawyer added, whilst in the hospital his client “effectively cursed twice in the waiting room”.

District Judge Richard Wilson said the unemployed mechanic has a not-very-distinguished record regarding public order and he said the defendant had to understand his liberty is in jeopardy.

He sentenced Roberts to three months in jail, suspended for two years, and fined him £250.

Through an interpreter, Mr Wilson told the defendant: “If you step out of line once more you are starting off with three months. Get yourself a job and stay off the drink.”
