Man warned on his aggressive behaviour

Roger Stewart (40), Maypole Park, Dromore, was accused of assaulting a female on September 26 last year.

The court heard the background to the matter was that the victim, the defendant’s partner, contacted police to say that he had become aggressive towards her

She told police he had grabbed her by the face and neck and pushed her backwards onto a chair.

After that she refused to make a statement to the police.

The case had been listed at last Thursday’s court as a contest.

A public prosecutor said that there was a way forward and that the charge would be withdrawn if Stewart agreed to be bound over.

A barrister representing the defendant said the mechanics of the assault were not accepted by the defendant.

He added that his client was in an intoxicated and less reasonable state that evening.

District Judge, Mr Paul Copeland, bound Stewart over for two years in his own bail of £500 to keep the peace and be of good behaviour.

He warned him that his behaviour during that period would be monitored and he was prohibited from any bullying or any aggressive conduct towards the injured party.
