Man warned to stay out of trouble

A Lisburn man has been warned by a judge to stay out of trouble after admitting a catalogue of offences.

Blake Edward Finan, 26, from Warrenmount appeared at Lisburn Magistrates Court this week charged with assault on police, possession of a Class B drug, namely cannabis, resisting police and common assault.

The court heard that on August 17, 2012, the police, following a report of a break in, stopped two men on the Moira Road and noted their details.

After speaking to the occupant of the property, both males, one of whom was the defendant, were later arrested on suspicion of criminal damage.

On arrival at the custody suite, the defendant was searched and a small amount of herbal cannabis was found on his person.

Whilst in custody, the defendant assaulted a civilian detention officer. The defendant also kicked out several times at a police officer.

During police interview the defendant admitted the drugs were for his own personal use and accepted that people had been hurt.

Defence told the court the defendant had “lost his cool.”

District Judge Rosie Watters deferred sentence for six months until December 16. She told the defendant: “I expect you to stay out of trouble and I expect a positive report from Probation.

“If everything is positive I will find some way of dealing with you that is non-custodial but if you get yourself into more trouble I will take a very dim view of it,” she added.
