Man was disorderly in Dunmurry

Stephen Anthony Barry Gorman, 28, whose address was given as Lavinia Square in Belfast, appeared at Lisburn Magistrates Court charged with disorderly behaviour and assault on a police designated person.

The court heard that on October 20, 2013, the defendant used disorderly behaviour in the vicinity of Brians Well Court in Dunmurry.

Gorman was also charged with assaulting a designated person in the execution of his duty, on the same date.

District Judge Rosie Waters had previously deferred sentence, allowing the defendant time to prove that he could remain out of trouble.

Passing sentence this week, Ms Waters told the defendant: “I could have given you an immediate custodial sentence but you have stayed out of trouble and completed a community service order.”

Imposing a sentence of four months in prison, which she suspended for twelve months, Ms Waters explained: “You will not serve that sentence at this stage but if you appear before this or any other court again you will serve an immediate custodial sentence. I do not want to see you here again,” she concluded.
