“He has spent a lot of time in jail. He knows drink has destroyed him, and he is trying to get help for himself,” said Mr Stewart.

District Judge, Richard Wilson, asked McAfee when he had last worked. The defendant said he couldn’t remember, and guessed that it was when he was in his twenties.

“If you want to set an example to your children, then work might be a good start,” said Mr Wilson. “You can’t control your intake of alcohol so try and ensure you don’t consume any.”

McAfee was give a combination order of 12 month probation and 100 hours community service. The Mr Wilson warned: “If you breach that you are going to jail.”
