Man who found cannabis on street fined in the court

After a man was lucky enough to find a bag of cannabis in a street it turned out to be unlucky when he was later stopped by police.

Piotr Falat (24), Kernan Hill Manor, Portadown, was fined £120 last Friday at Craigavon Magistrates Court for unlawful possession of herbal cannabis.

He was also ordered to pay a £15 offender’s levy.

The court heard that at 10pm on September 9 this year Falat was walking along Obins Street in Portadown.

When he saw police he turned his head away and pulled his hood up. When he was searched a small bag containing cannabis was found in his trouser pocket.

Falat told police that he had found it in the street and was planning to use it.

A solicitor representing the defendant said he maintained he found it on the street and it was a lucky, or unlucky, day for him.

He added that Falat was going to keep it for his own use.

District Judge, Mr Mervyn Bates, said the defendant had nothing of a similar nature on his record so he could deal with the matter by way of a fine.
