Man with 30-year clear record loses licence

A MOTORIST, said by his solicitor to have a 30-year clear driving record, has lost his licence for 12 months.

Patrick James McSorley (47), of Glenshane Park, Draperstown, was also fined £75 for driving while having consumed excess alcohol.

A PPS lawyer said the defendant was arrested in the early hours of July 14 after police stopped a vehicle and he failed a preliminary breath test.

She said he was taken to Limavady custody suite where he provided a specimen, which showed an alcohol reading of 70mcgs in breath.

A defence solicitor stressed that McSorley had no convictions and had never been in trouble with police before.

Imposing the penalties, District Judge Mr Desmond Perry said he would impose a fine which reflected defendant’s good record.

He also certified McSorley suitable to take part in the anti-drink driving rehabilitation course which may entitle him to a 25 per cent reduction in his period of disqualification.
