Man with high alcohol reading had '˜couple of pints at lunch'

Ivor Kissick (46), of Coleraine Road, had the offence detected at Riverside Retail Park, Coleraine, on May 13 this year, Coleraine Magistrates Court was told last Monday.

The court heard police saw a BMW car crossing a white line at 4.30pm and when they spoke to the defendant they could smell alcohol.

He told officers he had “a couple of pints at lunch time”.

His breath/alcohol level was 96, with the legal limit being 35.

A defence lawyer said his client had met up with family members to mark an anniversary and “the afternoon was longer than it should have been”.

District Judge Liam McNally said it was a “very high reading” and said he also had to take into account a previous similar conviction.

* A Portrush man has appeared in court charged with burglary with intent to do unlawful damage at St Patrick’s Primary School in the town.

Arthur John Myles Hanson (28), of Glentaisie Park, appeared at Coleraine Magistrates Court on Monday June 6 in connection with the incident at the Causeway Street school on May 10 this year.

He was released on his own bail of £300 including a condition banning him from the grounds of the school, and the case was adjourned to July 18.
