Managing waste made easy

BALLYMONEY Borough Council has launched a new comprehensive guide to managing household waste in the Borough.

This handy guide is being delivered to every household across the Borough and will also be available to download from the Council website, www.ballymoney.gov.uk.

The information leaflet contains information on reducing and reusing, civic amenity sites, blue bins including the expanded range of materials which can now be added, community recycling centres located in villages and town supermarkets and how to manage garden and food waste.

It is designed to be kept at home as a reference guide and also contains contact details for Borough Services should householders have any additional questions. There are now many different ways of dealing with waste but obviously reducing or reusing generated waste is the best option and can also reduce pressure on household budgets.

Food, how and what we purchase, as well as what we do with leftovers is one such area, with an average household throwing away in the region of 420 worth of food each year, rising to almost 500 if there are children! This is money that most can ill afford to lose. Simple steps can help reduce this loss and reduce food waste in the bin as a direct result. The leaflet contains information on how to start this process.
