It follows the success of the Confucious Classooms Project, for which Downshire School is the hub.

Reflecting on the innovative programme, a statement from Downshire said the school has been really enjoying the opportunity to learn about the Chinese language and culture through the Confucius Classrooms Project.

“We are the hub school and think this has given our pupils a unique insight into another country’s customs and language. This will allow our pupils to have a head start in many future employment ventures.

“Many of our 6th form students have taken language tests and are working towards stage 2 qualifications which would allow them to work in China. Next term, year 8 and 9 pupils will benefit from basic language and culture classes.”

The official launch of the hub was back in September and since then all year 8 pupils have enjoyed a taster event which allowed them to sample Chinese cuisine, arts and language.

“Different subject areas have also been able to benefit from our Chinese teachers including Art, PE, HE, Citizenship and many others.
