Man's behaviour was '˜disgusting'

Paul David Beattie, Ridgeway Street, Lisburn, was fined £100 for indecent behaviour on February 18 this year.

Beattie was also fined £300 for disorderly behaviour and he was ordered to pay an offender’s levy of £15.

The court heard that at 1.50am Beattie was seen urinating against a gate in the car park at the rear of the Coach nightclub in Church Square, Banbridge.

The area was busy with people leaving the club at the time.

Beattie, who was intoxicated, became abusive towards police when he was spoken to by officers.

He was warned about his behaviour but continued and was arrested.

The case had been adjourned from a previous court so that a pre-sentence report could be obtained.

A solicitor representing Beattie said the report showed he fully accepted his actions were wrong and he would apologise.

He explained that his client had a problem with alcohol and had sought help for his problem.

He had not touched alcohol since this incident.

Deputy District Judge Rosalie Prytherch said the defendant had drunk a bottle of vodka and wanted to know what he was doing to address his problem.

The solicitor said that Beattie didn’t drink that often but when he did he had a problem. He had a phone conversation with the Samaritans and will continue to seek help with his problems.

“He is building up this record and he needs to deal with this issue,” said the judge.

She pointed out that he had a previous disorderly behaviour offence and also indecent behaviour in 2011 and an excess alcohol offence.

The judge described the defendant’s behaviour as ‘absolutely disgusting’ and said it was an ‘absolute disgrace’ someone would feel the need to urinate in public.
