March meeting of Diabetes Support

Members of the Diabetes Support Group in Lisburn had the opportunity to meet David Chaney, the newly appointed Director of Diabetes UK in NI, at their March meeting.

While acknowledging the work of healthcare providers and diabetes teams in NI, Mr Chaney outlined some of Diabetes UK’s priorities for 2016.

“Above all,” he said. “We will work towards ensuring that people with, or at risk from, diabetes have access to tailored support to meet their needs.”

The new director encouraged those with diabetes to “keep telling us what you think and experience.”

Members of the Lisburn Support Group were given information by Mr Chaney about the launch of a Diabetes Strategic Framework by the Dept of Health in NI.

Part of the Framework promises additional funding to improve diabetes care and services for the 86,000 people diagnosed with the condition in NI.

The next meeting of the Lisburn Group will be held on Monday, April 4 in the Conference Room at Lagan Valley Hospital at 8pm.

The speaker for the evening will be Stephen McAllister, a podiatrist with the South Eastern Trust.

He will giving advice on diabetes and footcare.
