March of Witness for Craigyhill churches

THREE local churches have teamed up with friends from other churches for a March of Witness through Craigyhill.

All Saints’ Church of Ireland, Craigyhill Methodist and Craigyhill Presbyterian took part in the event in the spirit of the first Palm Sunday, when Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a donkey accompanied by a cheering crowd of followers.

The marchers paraded through the streets to the sound of loud praise music carrying banners and waving branches.

The event was designed to raise awareness of the exciting new Christianity Explored course, which is soon to be launched by the three churches at Linn Primary School. Passers-by and residents were given invitations to the course along with free Easter eggs.

Running on Thursday evenings from April 19 to May 31, 8pm - 9.15pm (plus a day away on Saturday, May 26), the course consists of refreshments and a short DVD presentation followed by a relaxed opportunity to discuss any issues that arise in a small group. The March of Witness formed part of a series of promotional events leading up to Easter, featuring local-born evangelist Graham McClellan. Graham – who grew up in Craigyhill and went to Linn Primary – has a passion for explaining the Christian faith in a simple way.

Earlier in the day he spoke at both All Saints’ and Craigyhill Methodist Churches, basing his message on Psalm 24.

Graham explained that the psalm issued a divine command for individuals, churches and communities to open the door for Jesus to come in this Easter.

At the end of the march, worshippers gathered at Craigyhill Presbyterian Church for a united celebration service led by Revd John Gilkinson.

The week of mission will continue on Good Friday/Easter Saturday, when Graham will be visiting the area again along with his mobile hospitality unit, where people can pop in for a chat, find out more about the course, ask for prayer or receive counsel and support.

Anyone interested in booking a place on the course can send their name and contact details to: C E Craigy Hill, PO Box 88, Larne, BT40 9BG, email [email protected] or call 07516257856.
