Margaret’s £10,000 gift to Macmillan Cancer

ALMOST £10,000 has been raised by an Armoy woman for Macmillan Cancer Relief during a decade of coffee mornings.

Margaret McCaughan has shown unwavering support for the charity down the years and her latest effort has been the best to date – so far.

St. Olcan’s Parish Church hall was the venue for the coffee morning and, as usual, the community rallied to support the event.

This year, young people figured prominently in those filing through the doors for tasty food and a hot cup of tea or coffee.

Margaret told the Times: “I was delighted to see so many of our supporters return, but particularly the many young people. It was very encouraging.”

Several days after the event, Margaret had raised £850 which exceeded previous amounts at that stage. The figure will be swelled by further contributions.

The Post Office has a facility for donations which will greatly assist in the work of the Macmillan Cancer Relief team.

Margaret would like to say a warm thanks to all who supported her.

“I do a lot of the baking, but I couldn’t manage it myself. All those who come to help are invaluable and I really appreciate their help,” she said.

Home produce was also on sale and items were snapped up quickly.
