Marina centre will be ‘boost’ for Portglenone

PORTGLENONE Marina is set to benefit from extensive new community facilities to service the Marina, after planners gave the green light for the proposal.

The application was made by Ballymena Borough Council for a new community building on land adjacent to Portglenone Marina and Portglenone Community Centre.

The building which will service the new Marina is to include a number of facilities, such as toilets; wet changing; a community rescue control room; drying room; social area; public toilets; car parking; motor home facilities; canoe stores and a children’s play area.

There will also be tiered seating; a community events space; grass events area; hard surfacing; tree and shrub planting; fencing; lighting and CCTV provision.

Sinn Fein Councillor Monica Digney said she welcomes the planners decision, while DUP MLA Paul Frew said it was good news for the area.

However there were three letters of objection to the application.
