Marina embraces the latest zumba craze

A LISBURN fitness instructor has taken the keep-fit craze, Zumba dance to a new level by offering classes specially designed for children as well as getting people to workout out in the pool.

Marina Furey, originally from Ukraine, moved to Northern Ireland in 2003 and now lives in Lisburn with her husband Martin and son Alexander. She is a well established zumba teacher with classes in and around the city.

Zumba fuses hypnotic latin rhythms and easy to follow moves to create a dynamic fitness program. Seeing how popular her classes were Marina decided to start up ‘Zumbatomic’ - a fitness program designed specifically for children. The overall goal is to use a fun and healthy program using the Zumba Fitness concept.

Marina explained: “The aim of Zumbatomic is to develop a healthy lifestyle, and to incorporate fitness as a natural part of children’s lives. While exercise is a very important element of childhood development, Zumbatomic also considers other areas of the child’s development. Zumbatomic can be taught as part of Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2, Dance and Movement within the school curriculum and is slowly being introduced to after school clubs. It can also be used as part of party celebrations - kids will have a fun time and will be worn out by home time.”

For zumba enthusiasts Marina also now offers an Aqua Zumba program which gives new meaning to the idea of an invigorating workout. She said: “Splashing, stretching, twisting, even shouting, laughing, hooting and hollering are often heard during an Aqua Zumba class. Integrating the Zumba formula and philosophy with traditional aqua fitness disciplines, the Aqua Zumba class blends it all together into a safe, challenging, water-based workout that’s cardio-conditioning, body-toning, and most of all, exhilarating beyond belief.”
