Marinausers face price hikes

FEES for using marine facilities in Glenarm and Carnlough are set to rise by about three per cent later this year.

From April 1, boat owners will pay £170 for an annual contract at Glenarm Marina; an increase of £5 from last year. The price of a winter contract will also rise from £110 to £115, while the annual cost of a non-service berth will increase from £65 to £67.

In Carnlough, an annual contract will cost £36 for the year 2013-14, compared with £35 in 2012/13. Owners of registered fishing vessels will pay £27.75, up from £25.

For both facilities, visiting vessels will be charged £2.20 per metre per night, compared with £1.75 the previous year.

Minutes of Larne Borough Council’s January development committee state that the price hike will bring Glenarm and Carnlough in line with charges at facilities such as Carrickfergus and Bangor.

“Prices had not been amended since 2011 and given that there are new marina facilities at Glenarm, it was felt it was appropriate to review charges in light of increased overheads and the improvements to facilities and services,” the official record added.
