To help those travelling to and from the Maritime Festival below is a handy event reference guide to traffic and travel issues and restrictions to help you plan your journey.

LegenDerry Beach Boys Concert

On Thursday evening Ebrington Square welcomes international stars the Beach Boys for an outdoor summer celebration of the hits that influenced generations of music lovers. The show begins at 7pm with support from local band John Deery and the Heads (7pm) and the Whistling Donkeys (7.45pm).

The crew of the Derry-Londonderry-Doire 2013-2014 Clipper Round the World Yacht Race will get another legenderry welcome when they make a special appearance on stage at approximately 8.45pm, shortly before the Beach Boys’ performance begins. The Beach Boys will arrive on stage at approximately 9pm.

Tickets for The Beach Boys’ concert priced £20 (plus £1.50 booking free) are available from the Millennium Forum Box Office, Tel: 02871 264455 or online at www.millenniumforum.co.uk or information points along the quay. A limited number will be available to buy at the gate.

The Limavady Road Park and Ride will be in operation for concert-goers from 5.45pm on Thursday and again after the concert finishes. There will be no parking on St. Columb’s Road for the concert.

Car parking opening times have been extended to accommodate concert goers – Quayside is open until 11.30pm while Foyleside Shopping Centre car park will be open until midnight.

Gates will open from 6pm and ticket holders can access the site via the Peace Bridge and the St Columb’s Park Road entrance. Full traffic and travel information is available on the website www.legenderrymaritimefestival.com

Friday night Japanese lanterns on the Foyle

The Obon on the Foyle Festival group a new collective to celebrate Japanese culture and arts is organising an event at 9pm on Friday 27 June as part of the Festival. There will be atmospheric festival music from Ibuki Taiko and guests, Paul Brady, Dearbhla Bradley and the Allegri Choir at the Main Stage in the Festival Village from 9pm followed by floating lanterns on the Foyle around 9.30pm. Come along early if you want to put messages on the lanterns.

Saturday Finale Event

On Saturday evening enjoy a fantastic evening of family fun on the Foyle at the LegenDerry Maritime Festival finale event.

Get in the mood for some maritime magic at the Pirates Party which takes place from 6pm in the corporate tent along the Quay. Dress up and join in the fun with all the usual activities along the Quay, before an amazing pyrotechnics display on the river closes the evening’s celebrations at 10pm.

A fiery battle between two ghostly pirate ships will be accompanied by a dramatic aquatic fireworks finale on the Foyle.

Huge crowds are expected at this event so spectators are urged to use the Park and Stride facilities at Fort George.

Sunday June 29

Clipper Round the World Yacht Race Parade of Sail

The spectacular Clipper fleet will finally leave the Foyle Marina at 12noon when they will make their way to Greencastle for the official race start, and their next destination, Den Helder in the Netherlands. Spectators are advised to take their places on the Quayside from 10am as the event build up starts at 10.15am, and thousands are expected to attend.

The Clipper Race yachts will begin their departures from 11am sharp.

The yachts are expected to arrive in Greencastle from 2pm where they will await the race start.

The Red Arrows will stage a stunning aerial acrobatics display beginning at 2.45pm to mark the official start of the 15th race - The OneDLL Cup - which also beings at 2.45pm.

A traffic management plan will be in operation in Greencastle with park and ride facilities available for spectators, full details on www.legenderrymaritimefestival.com.

Spectators in Greencastle will be able to avail of a range of viewing points along the coastline as well as from the village green - thousands of spectators are expected so early arrival is recommended.

There will also be vantage points from Downhill to Benone Strand (parking is permitted on Benone beach but motorists are urged to park with care as it is expected to very busy)
