Market could return
The general principle of a dedicated area in Market Street for existing traders has been approved by Craigavon Borough Council.
In Lurgan there are a number of outdoor market traders who trade on the streets from Thursday to Saturdays in un-designated pitches meaning they move about from time-to-time.

Legal advice received indicates that the council has the right to have a markets area in Lurgan, but this does not mean that they have to.
However, after some further research, the Roads Service has identified two new lay-bys which may be suitable for designated pitches for the existing market traders.
Given the current public realm works in Lurgan and the desire to improve upon the look of streets, council has agreed in principle to have these designated pitches provided the trading was of a suitable standard, agreed in advance and closely monitored.

"Obviously if there are any further changes council will have to take another look at the matter. The general principle of a markets area in Market Street is approved."
