THE Prince’s Trust sponsored by Invest Northern Ireland, kicked off the start of an exciting new series of Get Started programmes in the Creative Industry putting the spotlight on 10 young people hoping to become the next Steven Spielberg.

‘Get Started with Film’, an eight day engagement programme, provides training from pre-production right through to post-production in partnership with local company 15 Second Film. The participants learn about camera and sound basics, workflow, editing and visual and sound effects culminating in the young people taking an idea for a short film from the concept stage through to production and editing.

A major highlight was a visit to the Game of Thrones location at the Paint House in Titanic Quarter followed by a personal presentation from Professor Greg Maguire of The University of Ulster. His experience on major blockbuster movies including Avatar, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban and Happy Feet will provide real inspiration and encouragement to those hoping to break into the industry.

Mark Israel, 25 from Craigavon, was referred to the programme by Probation. He has been unemployed for six years and was interested in the creative industry but had never had any involvement in it before. he said: “I really enjoyed the programme especially working in the studio and making our short films. The programme has increased my confidence.”
