The men will be stationed at Foyleside Shopping Centre that afternoon and will be taking donations from the general public.

Don said: “Some people would say that Martin and I have the gift of the gab, so a sponsored silence where we have to shut up for the day will genuinely be a massive challenge for the both of us.

“All money raised will be invested into providing cancer services in the city; we’re hoping the local people dig deep and give to a worthy cause.”

Martin added, “We’d like to thank Royal Mail for kick starting our fund raising with a donation of £200.

“Don and I will be raised on a podium in the shopping centre so you won’t be able to miss us! Come on down to Foyleside on 23rd May to have a laugh at us and remember to bring your spare change.”

Action Cancer supports local people providing cancer detection, prevention and support services.

Last year the charity’s Big Bus visited Londonderry seven times offering health checks to males and females aged 16 plus and breast screening to women aged 40-49 and 70 plus (outside of NHS screening programme).

In 2014 the charity provided 153 breast screenings and delivered health checks to 80 residents of the city. Action Cancer has also supported 126 local people affected by cancer, providing 257 complementary therapy sessions; 284 counselling sessions and a 2 day Positive Living Programme.
