Martin confirmed as new ACC

ACC Martin leads the Police Service of Northern Ireland’s Operational Support Department and with 28 years’ service he brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the role.

He was previously the Head of Operational Training for three years, which included leading on the introduction and embedding of Human Rights principles and awareness into all training.

Most recently Stephen, in his role as Chief Superintendent, was District Commander in the North West with responsibility for the Foyle, Limavady, Strabane and Magherafelt policing areas. Having initially served as a constable in Londonderry he returned to the city 17 years later and one of his proudest achievements was leading on the policing operation for City of Culture in 2013.

Speaking about his appointment ACC Martin said: “It is an honour to be formally appointed to the role of Assistant Chief Constable and to lead on one of the key areas of policing within the Service. I have responsibility for a wide range of both operational and non-operational functions including Tactical Support Groups, Armed Response Unit, Close Protection, Roads Policing, Statistics Branch, Freedom of Information, Data Protection and Information Security. I am fortunate to have the support of an experienced team of colleagues and am looking forward to the challenges ahead.

Policing with the community is the key to successful policing and a more peaceful society and I will ensure this ethos is reflected right across the Operational Support Department as we move forward.”
