Martin McAuley (Independent)

MARTIN McAULEY is standing as an Independent candidate in North Belfast.

The 19-year-old law student from the Oldpark Road is the youngest candidate running in Northern Ireland. Martin is a relative newcomer to the political scene, but is well known as a community activist in his area. Having served on the executive committee of the Northern Ireland Youth Forum and as Secretary of Belfast City Council Youth Forum, Martin has already challenged several local politicians on behalf of the Province’s young people.

Amongst his policies are promises to bring proposals to reform the civil service, giving local politicians the power to make those civil servants who perform poorly redundant. In his manifesto he pledges not to make cuts to frontline public services and to place a cap on tuition fees for students with a view to eventually scrapping fees altogether in the future.

Martin also holds the ambitious intent of attending 70 per cent of votes in the Houses of Commons if he is elected to Westminster.
