Martye retires after 30 years on the road

STAFF and pupils at The Thompson Primary in Ballyrobert have wished school crossing patrol lady, Martye Agnew, a long and happy retirement.

Mrs Agnew handed back her ‘lollipop’ at the end of last week after more than 30 years in the job.

Having agreed to help out at the school for a couple of weeks in 1979, Mrs Agnew enjoyed the crossing patrol role so much that she stayed on in the job.

Now, after more than three decades ensuring the safety of pupils on their way to and from school, she has finally decided to hang up her hat and enjoy her retirement.

On Friday (October 1), staff and pupils at the school presented Mrs Agnew with a special gift to thank her for her many years of service and wished her a long and happy retirement.
