Masked gunman robs Londonderry store

Detectives at Strand Road are appealing for witnesses following the armed robbery at the store in the Glencaw Park area of Galliagh around 9.30pm on Thursday (6th).

Two masked men entered the store while a third remained outside. One of the men produced a handgun and demanded money from a member of staff. The three men then made off in the direction of Leafair Park on foot.

SDLP Derry City Councillor has appealed for people to bring information forward to the police.

The Shantallow councillor said: "People in the area are shocked and alarmed at this incident.

"It must have been an extremely traumatic experience for the staff involved and thankfully no one was injured.

"I would urge anyone who was in the Glencaw Park area around 9.30pm and witnessed masked men entering the shop or acting suspiciously to come forward to the police.

"It imperative that those responsible for this crime are apprehended and brought to justice before they strike again."
