Masonic breakfast serves up £2,000

A charity breakfast was held in the Bayview Hotel, Portballintrae last Saturday to raise much needed funds for two local charities.

The event was organised by the local district charity committee of the Freemasons of Ireland.An annual event, now in its fourth year, the hotel commences service at 7am and finishes at 10am and has a very varied selection on offer.

Andrew Bingham, the secretary of the charity committee was delighted with the turnout, He said: “We’ve served a hundred more breakfasts than we did last year.

“There are many people here who have no association with Freemasons, but want to support us and the charities.” Those charities that are to benefit from the function are, Guide Dogs for the Blind and the Chest, Heart and Stroke Association.

Representatives from Guide dogs for the Blind were present and enjoyed a breakfast themselves.

Tori with her guide dog Ushi commented: “I’m overwhelmed by the support. Everyone sounds like they’re really enjoying themselves.”

After the event the committee chairman Mr Stirling announced to those people still at the event that the money raised was in excess of £2000.00 and with more donations promised it is hoped that figure will be closer to £3000.00
