Massive turn out at Dalriada Open Morning

Primary school pupils from Year 6 and Year 7 and their families enjoyed an impressive insight into all aspects of life in Dalriada.

The work of all academic departments and many extra-curricular activities were on display and the visiting pupils had the opportunity to witness and take part in many

Visitors also had the opportunity to see in action the new Home Economics facilities and 3G training area. Mr. Skelton addressed both Year 6 and Year 7 pupils and parents outlining the continuing success of the school and pointing out the unique ethos of the school. He stated that ‘happy interested children work hard and achieve highly. Out pupils and staff set their sights high and constantly work to improve the quality of what they do, in order to achieve the highest possible standards in academic work, and in a wide range of activities’.

He also pointed out that Dalriada attracts pupils from 44 feeder primary schools and from the full range of social, religious and cultural backgrounds. He also highlighted the consistently impressive examination results at GCSE and A level with 95% of leavers gaining a place at university. He concluded by stating that the future of Dalriada looked bright with the schools enrolment being allowed to increase from 815 to 897 pupils, according to the NEELB Area Based Plan.

In addition to Mr. Skelton’s presentation a number of Year 8 pupils and the Senior Prefects gave short accounts of what life was like for them in the school and visitors were also treated to a superb compilation of photographs which depicted life at Dalriada.

Over 300 pupils volunteered to help out at the Open Morning, manning the 22 areas in operation. Nearly 100 sixth form pupils acted as guides to the large number of tour groups that toured the school. They were able to give an invaluable first hand insight into what life is like for a pupil at the school. Open Morning was another very successful day for the school.
