Masterplan boost for Greenisland area

Carrickfergus Borough Council has secured funding from the Department of Social Development for the project, which will be a non-statutory plan to guide regeneration and development.

The scheme will inform the investment decisions of organisations and individuals from the public, private and community sectors, with a common goal of revitalising Greenisland.

Mayor of Carrickfergus Borough Council, Alderman Charlie Johnston said: “Masterplans in Carrickfergus and Whitehead have been hugely successful, with results such as enhanced public realms, new play areas, improved coastal walks, improved facilities and shop-front improvements and it is hoped that similar opportunities can be brought to Greenisland.”

URS Consultancy has been appointed by the local authority to develop the masterplan.

The consultancy firm will engage with all the community groups, businesses, churches, schools and organisations in the Greenisland area.

They plan to carry out telephone interviews and distribute questionnaires to residents to capture the views and aspirations of the Greenisland community.

Public consultation will take place in October for a 12 week period and everyone will be encouraged to have their say.
