Match will aid the Children's Heartbeat Trust

A CHARITY football match involving one of the Waterside's most well known teams will take place this Friday (July 30) at the Riverside Stadium.

The game between Lincoln Courts and a Tesco Select side will raise money for a highly worthwhile cause - The Children's Heartbeat Trust (CHT).

Inspired by local dad, Neil Bronze, the game is the latest in a series of events to benefit the charity which, for good reason is close to Mr Bronze's own heart.

Some years ago, his now six-year-old son Lewis had to face life saving open heart surgery. At just three months old, the little boy was subjected to a medical ordeal that is considered daunting enough for adults.

Little Lewis Bronze suffered a cardiac problem known as Ventricular Septal Defect and required urgent surgery. He is now healthy and thriving, and, the help received by the family from CHT has made the grateful father determined to give something back to the organisation.

Neil Bronze recently told the Sentinel: "The deal was to keep him alive at Altnagelvin and when he was big and strong enough to take him to the Royal for open heart surgery. Our lives were in turmoil."

Once they reached the Royal Victoria Hospital, the family received help to allow them to stay in Belfast free of charge and so remain with Lewis on a 24-7 basis.

In a recent fundraising event Neil Bronze gathered and auctioned items donated from high profile members of the sporting world including the Ulster Rugby Team, city boxing hero John Duddy and a 30-year-old football programme signed by the legendary Diego Maradonna.

Stephen Nicholl from Lincoln Courts FC told the Sentinel: "We are without a doubt happy to raise money for this great cause. The family live in Lincoln Courts and anything we can do to help, we will."

Friday's match should help add more funds to help the charity to assist other children and their families.

The match kicks off at 3.60pm at the Riverside Stadium and admission is 2 for adults and 1 for children. The team also operating sponsorship sheets for the event and you can give your donation by contacting members of the Lincoln Courts team.
